An adoption home study is a comprehensive review designed to ensure a safe, stable, and supportive environment for a child. While it may sound intimidating, it’s really about getting to know you and preparing you for adoption.

Most home studies in Texas include:

• Interviews with each member of the household
• Home visit(s) to ensure the environment is safe and appropriate
• Background checks, including criminal history and child abuse registry checks
• Medical clearances from your physician
• Financial review to confirm stability (not wealth)
• Personal references from friends or colleagues
• Autobiographical information about your life, relationships, and motivation to adopt
• Adoption education and preparation

The process should be both evaluative and supportive. Your social worker is there to guide you, not judge you.
